DBeaver Setup Guide
DBeaver Community Edition is the recommended database client for BlueGreenCity-KI because it combines schema exploration, SQL editing, export tooling, and PostGIS-friendly table browsing in one interface.
Install DBeaver
Download the Community Edition from https://dbeaver.io/download/ and install it for your operating system.
Minimum recommendation:
- current community release
- PostgreSQL driver enabled
- local profile or key store available for credential storage if permitted by your security policy
Connection Template
Use the following placeholders when creating a PostgreSQL connection:
| Parameter |
Value Pattern |
| Host |
|
| Port |
5432 |
| Database |
|
| Username |
|
| Password |
provided separately or loaded from local secret storage |
| Authentication |
Database Native |
Create the Connection
- Open DBeaver.
- Select Database, then New Database Connection.
- Choose PostgreSQL.
- Enter the values from the connection template.
- Download the driver if DBeaver asks for it.
- Test the connection and save it.
Daily Usage
Recommended uses of DBeaver in this project:
- inspect schemas (
bgcki for current objects, bgcki_archive for archived ones)
- run exploratory SQL queries
- export result sets to CSV or GeoPackage-compatible intermediate formats
- inspect table structure, indexes, and views
Example query:
SELECT art, COUNT(*) AS tree_count
FROM bgcki.trees_inventory
GROUP BY art
ORDER BY tree_count DESC
LIMIT 10;
Good Practice
- Save passwords only on trusted machines.
- Keep shared screenshots free of credentials and live hostnames.
- Use DBeaver for inspection, not as the primary mechanism for large production writes.
- Use the Python pipeline for repeatable imports and exports.
When to Use Something Else
- Use QGIS for map-based inspection.
- Use the VS Code PostgreSQL extension for quick development queries.
- Use pgAdmin only when a browser-based fallback is required.
